Closest Airports

Punta Gorda is one of the main airports in Fort Myers Beach, and your go-to selection for most budget airlines, like Allegiant.

Punta Gorda Airport is three miles east of Punta Gorda in Charlotte County. It’s been mainly used for general aviation, but it has recently gotten some more scheduled airline services. It works with Allegiant Air and offers flights to fifty destinations. It hosts the Florida International Air Show, which features some really fantastic demonstrations by the United States Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, the US Air Force Thunderbirds, and the Army’s Sky Soldiers. This annual event takes place in November.

RSW

RSW is a conveniently located airport for travels to Fort Myers. If you’re looking to stay in a vacation rental a short walk to the beach, this is a great airport to travel to. RSW airport is located roughly 30 minutes from Fort Myers Beach and 45 minutes from Sanibel Island. RSW has more than 20 airline partners, making it a highly convenient airport to fly into. There are flights going out to other major airports, like Atlanta, Chicago, New York, and more. If you would like to continue your travels after leaving Fort Myers, it would be incredibly easy to do so by getting a connecting flight out of one of these major airports. 

At RSW, there are booths with visitor information throughout the airport. Fort Myers visitors can ask questions and find out a ton of information about local Fort Myers Beach attractions and places to visit. This airport is more than just a means of getting where you want to go; it’s also a hub of information about the area and what you can do on your trip. 

Driving Directions

So you want to know how to get to Fort Myers. If you choose to drive from northern US states to Fort Myers, it’s still easily accessible. Southwest Florida is no problem to get to from I-10 and I-19 by connecting indirectly with I-75. US41 is the primary commercial road that runs through Southwest Florida, and it runs parallel to I-75. It also goes through the Everglades to Miami.

From RSW airport, I-75 is located about three miles to the west, and it’s not too expensive to get a taxi to Fort Myers Beach.
